The mixed relay event has served to put an end to the ISMF World Cup Skimo Boí Taüll 2025. A mixed event with a very exciting and visual format has been the perfect culmination to close a competition that has continued to position the Boí Taüll resort as an ideal setting for international-caliber competitions and the practice of ski mountaineering.

 

53 teams from 28 countries have participated in a competition that highlights the essence of ski mountaineering by highlighting teamwork, uniting mixed pairs for a vibrant format that will be Olympic next year. The race, held in the Vaques sector, has tested the pairs of skiers, who to complete the route have competed in two climbs and descents with transitions and carrying.

 

Chronicle of the day: MIXED RELAYS

The race has been very exciting from the start. The Swiss team, formed by Caroline Ulrich and Thomas Bussard, dominated from the start, with a very strong Caroline setting the pace and maintaining a stable lead until the finish line. This victory represents the first World Cup victory in the Mixed Relay category for the Swiss pair.

 

Behind them, the battle for second place was intense. The Spanish and Austrian teams played a close battle throughout the competition, exchanging positions in each relay. Finally, Oriol Cardona made a key advance on the last curve of the second descent, securing the silver medal for Spain along with Ana Alonso.

 

With this result, Cardona and Alonso repeat the silver they achieved last year and consolidate their candidacy for the 2026 Cortina Olympic Games. Upon reaching the finish line, Oriol Cardona assessed their performance as follows: "We tried and gave our best. Everything is part of the preparation for the Olympic Games, and we are very happy as a team, competing at home is always a pleasure". Ana Alonso, for her part, highlighted her satisfaction with the result: "We competed very well, with rhythm and strategy, and we are very satisfied with this result. Getting back on the podium here in Boí Taüll means a lot to us".

 

The Austrian team, formed by Paul Verbnjak and Johanna Hiemer, completed the podium in third position, achieving their second podium in the World Cup.

 

As for the rest of the Spanish team, the pair formed by Marta Garcia and Iñigo Martínez were unable to secure a place in the A final, as only one pair from each team has access. In the B final they obtained a hard-earned second place, competing alongside the Catalan pair formed by Maria Costa and Ot Ferrer who did well, achieving 7th place in the B final, where the French pair Emily Harrop and Baptiste Ellmenreich took the victory.

The event has had the involvement of more than 80 professionals and volunteers, who have made possible the development of a high-level competition. In total, this privileged territory, located in the heart of the Catalan Pyrenees, has been the nerve center of ski mountaineering for a week, becoming the meeting point for more than 400 accredited people, including athletes, technicians, organization and media.

 

In addition to consolidating itself as one of the major venues for the Ski Mountaineering World Cup, Boí Taüll reaffirms its commitment to this discipline, with a firm commitment to continue developing and hosting high-level competitions.
